John reflects on growing up with a sense that something wasn’t quite right, learning to use humour as both attack and defence, and becoming fascinated by alcohol long before he understood what it offered him. He talks candidly about the progression of his drinking and the years he spent trying to control it: counting drinks, crossing days off…

Following some big news from Elis, a super-sub wonder kid was required to step in. Enter: Tim Key. Who knows, some of you might even recognise his voice from LONG ago?? John can’t stop making soup…. It was a very ratty Robins today, but at least he’s not had any nicotine this year. Why on earth did Elis choose this week to argue with him about Queen??? Still, a smashing show full of gut-wrenching Humblebrags, a stomach-churning Shame Well and an absolute hammer of a Made Up Game! If Elis says he was working, then he was working ok? Also, if John wants to challenge a listener on whether or not they’re breaking the law; that’s fine too. It was a banger of a show this week, full of festive silliness and anticipation for the big 250! There was a dash of shame, a measure of Humblebrags and a tidy portion of the Paper Review too! A slightly different vibe to the podcast this week as heroic, brave, valiant John ‘Courage’ Robins battled through a mild cold to broadcast to the nation – aided and abetted by his friend/surrogate son Eis. It was a show that critics may have called “distracted” given the football vibes moving through the studio – but there wasn’t one moment where the badinage was in question. You can still expect Humblebrags, John’s gig diaries and almost a third of the show dedicated to something that was definitely NOTHING to do with FIFA.
